Title: Planned forum downtime - Monday 12th September
Post by: Dan on September 09, 2011, 07:08:12 pm
Just to let everyone know that the forums will be inaccessible between around 6am and noon on Monday 12th September.

This is to allow us to upgrade the forum software to the latest version, convert it to be part of the new website, add some new features and move to a new web server.

On Monday around noon we will be launching the new TAS website at last.  :o

Thanks to all those who tested the new site, we hope you all like it.  :)

Dan & Rosemary

Eek, looks like I've misled everyone. By 12pm I meant noon, so it's only 6 hours, not 18!  :o

Maybe it's the Hotmail one I had to kill, and I forgot to change it - will go and check.  Certainly didn't get an email from you and I check my junk folder daily anyway.

Hello TAS'ers!  :)

We're now finally live with the new website and forums.  ;D

Apologies for over-running with the go-live, we had a lot of data to move across and inevitably some minor glitches on this new server.

I've posted some details of what's new on the site and forums (http://www.accidentalsmallholder.net/forum/index.php?topic=18221.0), and we'll be busy adding more stuff today and over the coming weeks.

Dan  :)

I'm just starting to get used to it now  :D  and as others have said it will probably take a while.  It does all seem very spacious and I am well pleased with the new wildlife section, which I have duly posted in  :D :bee: :ladybug: :bfly:  Thank you Dan, and Rosemary for keeping him sane while the work was being done  :D

I suppose it's my less-than-perfect eyes, but I am struggling with some of the print - grey on grey (as in the main forum page), orange on green - in fact anything with the green background. I've no idea how these things work so I don't know how adjustable it is. And I do like how things glow   8)

But overall - ten out of ten

Thanks for the feedback, I'm tweaking the colour scheme today to improve the contrast and readability.

I expect the wind was wrecking havoc somewhere between you & me, though it never reached us. But I couldn't find your new site 'till today. Tried several times and before I went to bed about 11pm, but just the old site & the maintenence message on the forum section.

Just thought I'd let you know in case a few folks are still having problems.

Looks lovely though, congratulations  :trophy:  :)

Oh, and as I am getting long in the tooth and need to peer at them is there any chance the smileys could be increased in size?

I don't get a big empty green bit.  I get the headings / menus in an olive green banner, but nothing I would describe as large and empty.  It's not my favourite colour either, but then it's not my site!

You need to empty your cache Annie - it sounds like your browser is still loading one of the old site stylesheets so you'll be seeing an unholy mess.

It should look like the attachment below...

I see why someone said the stars are square - mine are still pointy  ;)

I definitely get the big green screen, for example when I click on 'forum', the list of 'home', 'livestock', 'Veggies' etc is still on the left, with a similar depth of empty green filling most of the screen, then the messages themselves are just visible peeping up at the bottom of the page.  Isn't this what everyone has?

Also, it seems that if you are typing a reply and someone else beats you to it, it no longer comes up with a red warning that this has happened, so you can modify your reply accordingly.

Sounds like you need to clear your cache, too, Juliet.

I do still get the red warning - although I think it's now at the top of the visible screen and seems just a tad less noticeable.  Having said which, I'm not sure whether I've seen it on 'Post' or only on 'Preview'...

Yes that's the big green bit I mean - seems a waste of a useful space.

And I see that all your 'w's are complete Annie.  Mine are still lacking their middles.  My OH has seen the same thing on another site too, a biking one, so maybe it's either our computer or .....what?  I will one day take time to send a screen drop to show Dan - too complicated just now.

Annie, from that screen shot it looks like you're still seeing the old stylesheet, please clear your cache or do a hard refresh of your browser (Ctrl + F5 on most Windows browsers).

what are 'w' s?

Errmmm.... the letter that's between vee and ex in the alphabet, between Q and E on the keyboard.

As I understand it, Fleecewife will see her own name as something like "Fleece||ife" at the moment - but it sounds as though the problem is at her end.

Juliet, have you tried changing the font?  If you can't do it on the complete page, you could change the font in a post that you make yourself.  Just to see if it makes a difference.

Actually, I could do that for you.  Here's a selection!

Thank you Sally - every single alternative font you wrote for me (well, apart from THAT one  ;D)  has perfect dubyas, double ewes, double youse (for Scottish ones), double u's etc.  The only one with the holey-middle ones is the one which comes automatically.  So can I change the settings somehow so everything comes through in, perhaps, the first one you wrote? I like that one. Or is it something Dan would have to do and it would then be different for everyone?  Sorry to be so  :dunce: but how do I empty my cache?  In fact, what is my cache?  It obviously worked for you Annie so I suppose I should do it, but I like my stars being star shaped  ::) and I would lose that  :o.

Oh, now I'm jealous.  My stars are still square.  (And I don't want to clear my cache because my human memory is so useless - I often use the browsing history to remind me what websites I was looking at last week or the week before!)

Glad you are sorted, FW.
