This appeared in one of my seedling pots (forget which now).
It looked interesting so I potted it on to see what it would do.
Any ideas?
I appreciate it is still fairly "unformed" to my untrained eye

Hi  it's a cucurbit of some kind, probably a squash or pumpkin, not a cucumber but maybe a courgette - time will tell ;D
-
Mmmm - wonder where that came from!!!
We didn't have any cucurbits growing last year although last week I did put some corgette and butternut seeds in to germinate as they came with a magazine... but that was way after this one popped up. ???
Ah well - mine is not to reason why.javascript:void(0);
Here it is and will have a chance at life :-)
Thanks Fleecewidfe - you are alsways first to identify my plants :bouquet:
-
I like picture quizes ;D Do let us know when it finally produces a fruit.
-
I am to get a few rogue tomato plants, which is great as NONE of the ones I put out in seed trays actually germinated ;D
good luck with your cougette or squash, looks lovely! :&>
-
We lost a couple of "last chance" tomato plants to frost the other day so there will be room in the last chance saloon for the cucurbits :D
-
It does seem odd that a cucurbit grew unexpectedly as the seeds are hard to miss ;D
A few years back I noticed a small plant in my polytunnel which I certainly hadn't sown and had no idea what it was. Being curious I let it grow...and grow....and grow...eventually it produced white trumpet flowers and some funny looking spiky fruits, identifying itself as Datura or Thorn Apple - highly poisonous. It had a horrible smell but I let it grow on and on just to see what happened. Several more had appeared but I pulled those out. By the time it was about 8 feet tall I decided enough was enough - and I certainly didn't want it seeding itself. I looked inside the spiky fruits and found that the seed was indistinguishable from pepper and chilli seeds, but as I sow all things like that indoors in pots it wasn't that it had come in a seed packet. It was suggested that birds might have brought it - but where from? I can't imagine anyone within flying distance of where I live keeping such an exotic plant, and there has never been a seed like that in the bird seed we put out for the birds. It has never come back - which I'm pleased about as it was a bit like being taken over by a triffid ;D
-
Perhaps you were eating a cucumber sandwich in the polytunnel? ;D
-
With the crusts trimmed - of course ;D ;D ;D
Talking of Triffids ...
There is a worrying amount of Japanese Knotweed starting to grow by the side of the road about half a mile from us - horrible stuff :P there were areas inundated with it near where we used to live in Wales & the council used to poison it every year, looked awful, but it always came back ???
It's about time someone found a way of doing away with this stuff - they'd make a fortune - any budding scientists out there?
-
Isn't it amazing :D :D
-
thats a courgette!! tenner on it!!
the label on the pot behind says courgette so maybe its a mislabeled pot rather than a missplaced seed?
-
Ah no ;) - those seeds (behind) were acquired and planted after the "imposter seed" reared its head.
We've never done any cucurbits becasue DH says he doesn't like them........ but he will ;) ;)
-
Courgette omlettes are :yum:

Ooooh - do you have a recipe?
I have a lovely recipe for courgette and cheese souffle which works a dream every time. DH loves it.
Here is the latest seedling picture. Another two leaves have appeared
-
Come on! It needs a bigger pot! ;D

It is looking more and more like a courgette ;D
-
it does need to be planted out tho!! i reckon its gonna give you the best harvest ever just to prove its point!! :D
-
Well - we've had some great rain this weekend.
The pot isn't that small it's just a bit fore-shortened in the pic..... promise :D
I've got some space in the last chance saloon since we lost a few tomatoes to a slight frost recently. So - he will go out tomorrow and I will keep you posted.
The TAS courgette :hshoe: :hshoe: :hshoe:
-
Well - Mr Corjee went out today into the last chance saloon bed in the pig pen (we're not having pigs this year).
Delighted to see that two of the tomatoes which the frost got last week are rallying!!! (you can just see one behind Mr Corjee)
Jeez ::) ::) ::) naming plants now :dunce:
-
Still looks like a melon plant rather than a courgette plant......see what it produces..... eh!
-
I was thinking that it might have come in the compost, especially if you use the sort made of recycled council veg waste. I use New Horizon which has all sorts of bits still in it and could certainly hide a cucurbit seed.
Nothing had better happen to Mr Corjee before we know what he is :D :D ::)
-
You must let us know what it produces!!!! :o
My guess is courgette, cucumber, pumpkin or melon :yum:
-
Here he is a couple of weeks older
-
Mm doesn't look like a courgette any more....curiouser and curiouser ;D Maybe a butternut squash?
-
I used to really dislike courgettes until we went to Santorini last year and had them griddled. I slice them, brush them with light olive oil and griddle them and then sprinkle with sea salt. De-lish! :chook:
This post reminds me of Wizard - he often came up with recipes.
-
Hi Suziequeue - has that imposter produced anything yet?
-
it should be quite big now and show some sign of fruiting - keep us updated! :) :&>
-
please!!!!!!! ;D
-
Sorry - have been offline for about a month now and no sign of getting our broadband back in sight >:( >:(
Every time we enquire we are told "a few more days - we're just waiting out on BT to do the switch"
So the problem is that I wanted to send a pic.
The reality is that poor old Mr Courgee died of neglect and goose grass. I will try an post pic when I can
Sorry it's not great news :'(
