Good Soil: Manure, Compost and Nourishment for your Garden Hardcover – 2 Mar. 2017

4.5 out of 5 stars 26 ratings

Maximise your garden, whatever you grow in it, with some Swedish expertise.

Plants need nutrients to grow, flower and bear fruit, nutrients that can be found in offal, the sea, fire, rocks, rubbish and, of course, dung heaps. Tina Råman digs into every aspect of nurturing your soil, from chemistry and biology to history and philosophy, giving you practical advice, generous tips and above all masses of inspiration. She lifts the lid on old and reliable fertilisation methods and opens the doors to new resource-efficient and environmentally-smart cultivation techniques.

Good Soil doesn’t look like a typical gardening book but it’s a book that everyone interested in gardening needs.

This is as far from the usual ‘how to do it’ manual gardening book as it gets. It is written with great passion as well as having been well researched. As well as the writing being excellent, the design and photography are very well done. The writing very much illustrates the very essence of gardening in an informed and passionate way. If you buy just one gardening book, buy this one.

This book is typical of productions lately. It is overly large and full of images and poncy graphics. It is also full of stuff not connected to 'soil' the subject. Nevertheless, if you can be bothered to wade through it, (I don't recommend - dip in instead), there are the occasional bits of useful information. If you are interested in soil - you probably already know or have come across the info elsewhere. I wanted to like this book but I hate it.

Not an easy read but some very important information contained within!

Any modern book on soil that recommends or proposes peat as a soil enricher is morally inept and seriously outdated. Like shredding ancient hedgerows for sawdust, the environmental arrogance here is disgraceful. Couldn’t read it as a result.

After borrowing a copy at the library I had to have my own copy because there was so much information. I love the European perspective, the GREAT information, beautiful photos and more. The copy I received was perfect and well packaged (some others are thrown carelessly in a plastic bag with scotch tape over it).

Wow. What a great book. The pictures alone are worth the price of the book, and it's chock full of information! Definitely a book to love.

The book is lovely to look through, however the information is in every other book I have ever read on gardening except for wee-weeing in the compost, which is way too gross for me to consider doing.
