pumpkins with barnacles

what are these spots I have on some of my hokaido squashes - not all! Look like barnacles on a ship  ;D :&>

They look to me like heald wounds from slug bites!!! They cant get through the skin but graze the outside which reacts as it heals.

Pest damage,...beer in the garden adn some organic sprays will make a difference.
