There are many vegetables that will germinate at 8c degrees  or higher. The ground at 6ft down is remarkably stable at 10/12c. Would it be worth putting a ground loop down (heat pump principle) and keeping the soil in a raised bed glasshouse( actually an old silage clamp covered over with polycarb) a bit higher in winter ?
