If he's still struggling to find the teat do some trimming around her undercarriage so he can see the wood through the trees.
Re rats, go down your local and ask the scruffy farmer types for the number of a terrier man, rats will be dead in a an afternoon for a cheap bottle of scotch.

I know a good rat catcher but he doesn't travel well...... he is 81 after all. I went to fix an old tractor for him today. He was busy lambing but he's made his living from vermin control on Arley estate
