Advice please...
I’m in the process of re-homing a couple of orphan lambs..... as a new keeper I’m doing as much research as possible but the movement and tagging legislation is causing me some sleepless nights...I’m applying for the CPH number but the lambs are currently not tagged as their breeder/owner passed away....can I tag them when they arrive at my home? any advice welcome...

No they need to be tagged so that the relevant paperwork to record the movement can be completed. Is there someone acting on behalf of the breeder? They should be able to sort tags either by finding them (most sheep keepers will have a supply) or by ringing and ordering some from a tag company.

However if you cannot get tags at the holding of birth sorted (and you may need to move these lambs soon for welfare reasons), as you will need to apply for a flock number any way once you keep sheep on your holding, and then you can tag the sheep with either your own flock number (and note the circumstances in your log book), or if you can get a couple of red tags specifically for these lambs then that's better.

It will take a while for you to understand tagging, but it isn't overcomplicated just different for new sheep keepers.
