Mother that is!

I've said about crack pot sheep, mum "but something has to eat the grass..." Folks, we've done that thread!

Right, the 3 that are currently in, 2 that I got in before the snow, 1 the next day, one is Orla, a WH, she's a darling, one is a crack pot WH and the other is a homebred hogg! Well, hogg has dags, so I got them all down the alley and snipped off what I could, then mum hobbled down to give me a "hand".

Marvellous sight to see a hairy hogg (moment mum walked into space) try to jump a gate and fail miserably! Aware that mum was target practice, I grabbed, yanked and went looking for a bag! MADE MY DAY to discover none! She'll go through the killers!

About bloody time she realised that! She may have suggested shooting the WH, but she had never seen them, only heard about them. She's met 3 so far, one in for lambing and the 2 who she has lambed, Tiffany & Tabitha who eat out of my hand! They'll be staying (so far!!) as they have had a change of attitude! We're H's this year, Herbie & Howler, Hugo & Hufflepuff are their boys!

Blame mum, I had NO intention of naming lambs this year, except off one ewe (who hasn't lambed yet and I'm hoping for nice Shetland ewes, mum is DD x Shetland so in theory .......... the lambs should favour Shetland! Please, please please please!!!!)

 I got my Heather!!

At 146 days, Climbme decided to lamb, dark brown tup, DORSET type ewe, black tup! Knew it would happen, ask her for Shetland ewe lamb, she sends one that favours the 1/4 Dorset Down! Typical!

Never mind, Climbme will be retired to pet status (8 years old) and Heather will hopefully take her place........ We'll see!

We haven't named anything this year either - yet! Well ... apart from one uncastrated ram lamb who has already been called "Horny", in part due to his rapidly emerging horns but also from his particular style of playing ... he's two weeks old

You have Wiltshires & Soay don't you? The horn buds are what surprised me. This is the 2nd year of lambing my WH to Dorset Down and so far, none have shown buds, last years didn't either, however, Climbme's lambs, born yesterday, first thing I noticed was the mark on the 3rd tups head and you can feel little buds. Heather hasn't got any and though the 1st tup is lighter there, he hasn't got any. I put my hand on CM's head and I can just feel crusting but her mum was hornless. The tup I borrowed did have horns but they were wired off as apparently he broke one so the owner had the vet see to them.

WE (Me) thought that this would be the easy lambing part...... STILL waiting for Orla and the other WH to lamb! I saw him mark them, I wrote it down, I can only assume he repeated on them on the exact same colour 17 days later, which doesnt make sense as I change the colour every 14 days! Lets just say, these other 2 wild WH do NOT like Orla. I've threatened them (verbally), the one stamps her feet at me. How the other pair changed is amazing, (Tiffany is very vocal and answers me back, I'm only used to the dog doing that!) these pair ...... the one in particular, the way she is behaving, I cant see her calming down once she's lambed. The last time I had this, it was a cow, it departed!

The other wild WH is 142 days today so hoping she won't go on too much but we're wanting these other 2 to get on with it, so we can go to sleep before getting in the last 3 next Friday, a Shetland and 2 Castlemilk. I know they can probably manage outside but the original cameras were fitted in the 1990's to watch Welshies to keep the stress levels down!

IF I'm still game later this year, those who are here, 1 tup, later this year for lambing March next year on a tighter schedule! I'm remembering now why I don't like lambing spaced out all over the place!
