Hatching!
« on: June 08, 2018, 11:21:33 pm »
Got the first incubator pipping at the mo
Shetland chickens, marans, cream legbars and some marsbars (maran x clb who lay olive eggs) this go round, and 2 more shetlands and 2 marsh daisies hopefully in a few days. Had a very disappointing marsh daisy delivery which were packaged shockingly - of 12, 2 were bust and only 2 were viable on day 5 so I don't have great hopes for them.

Disappointing hatch. 28 in this incubator and only 12 chicks :( I think we lost the only maran to hatch, so these babies are a mix shetlands, cream legbars and mars bars

Final hatch of ?6 is in lock down tomorrow so lets see - more shetlands and some marsh daisies hopefully..

Our Shetlands hatched at the weekend, but the duck versions :-)

Incubated 19, 18 fertile at two weeks, 8 hatched - one clearly not going to survive and another just didn't seem to get up and go, so we have six that seem to be doing well. Looking at the ones that didn't hatch there were some that looked like they died probably shortly after candling and others that look like they fully developed but the air sac wasn't big enough. Oddly 5/5 from one group hatched and just 3/13 from the others. I ran humidity at 50% throughout and increased to 65-70% for the final 2 days. Any thoughts / suggestions?

If we incubate ducks again I think I'll do serial weights to check that they are losing enough.
