How much should I sell ewes lambs with lambs at foot?
« on: March 23, 2017, 09:50:43 am »
I've got a pair of Shetland cross Charollais ewe lambs who are due to lamb soon to a charollais ram.

I have someone who is interested in them but I have no idea what would be a fair price for the ewes with lambs at foot.

any ideas?

Can you go along to your local livestock market and see what similar bunches are making?   I'm selling pre-ordered pedigree, registered Southdowns with registered lambs at foot and I charge the Society auction upset prices.  These are lower than most folks charge but I find it often leads to repeat purchases and ram hire, so this way I'm saved the bother of taking them to market and the buyer knows they're paying a fair price.

Have a look here: http://www.farmingads.co.uk/Sheep/A/livestock-for-sale.php  and see if there is anything comparable.

Ask what they'd be willing to pay, doesn't matter how much you ask if it's more than they want to spend x

Start here, then check the other similar ads and you should be able to get an idea what is fair: https://www.sellmylivestock.co.uk/livestock/for-sale/8-pedigree-charollais-breeding-ewes-with-lamb-at-foot-D7650703/

I have seen ewes and lambs from £45 per life upwards.

I think £50 a life would be a good place to start. Although with them being shetland crosses that might limit your buyers so I'd be flexable.

I'd be more along the lines of £120 per couple. (£80 for ewe, £20 per lamb).

We have sold a few for 120 for ewe plus one lamb. We let him have one set of twins too. They are pure Shetland but not registered. Buyer thought that was a fair price.
