Feeding sugar beet to pigs?
« on: August 14, 2009, 10:48:28 am »
I was wondering when feeding dried sugar beet to pigs does it need to be soaked (like fed to horses) or just as it is? Some one told me it makes the meat sweeter, is this true?
I am asuming it needs soaking as it swels significantly in the stomach of horses but i dont realy no about pigs? Im sure theres a few that could help me on here  ;D
Thanx danielle x :pig:

It can be fed dry to pigs, although it increases their water intake.  Can be fed soaked.  Not sure if it makes the meat sweeter it is a cheap filler.

Mine weren't terribly fond of it when I tried it, so I discontinued.

We live in Tamworth Town (not literally, but it feels like it!). We have four thriving Tammies that we feed rolled oats, wheat, barley, flaked and ground maize and an assortment of fruit an veg. They absolutely love it and it meets their protein requirements, so everybody's happy!
