Mmm, interesting ..... I'm a member of the Herefordshire Meadows Group, dedicated to restoring the ancient meadows in the County and establishing new ones. In the next five years there should be quite a lot of work done on how this benefits everything from biodiversity to livestock and soil health. I see from the latest AHDB Better Returns Programme Bulletin that one of their current projects focuses on the benefits of introducing livestock into arable systems. Grazed cover crop leys sown in Autumn in preparation for a spring crop have increased yields by up to 20%, reduce mineral leaching threefold and produce a 20% increase in soil organic matter content.
