I was pondering on getting a greenhouse (I have posted separately for help on this in the Equiptment section ) and wondered what sort of things you grow in them and do you grow veg all the year round . .  whats good in the winter?

I find I so rarely go to my greenhouse in the winter, that any veg I have planted there die from neglect.  I am a fairweather gardener. The only thing I use my greenhouse in winter for is to overwinter things in pots that are outside during the summer.

Summer - no problem - grow all my veg inside my greenhouse until they are well established enough to go outside in my plot as I have problems with mice/rabbits/bird etc.  Also grow hydroponic tomatoes (I need a lot of tomatoes) and aubergines all summer.

I have just been reading up on hydroponics - how do you have your system set up - is it ready made or did you build it yourself?

I bought two units from www.greenhousesensation.co.uk Egbert.  Quite basic stuff really - I don't see why you couldn't do one yourself, but it is very convenient and easy to use.  I also have found a supplier very close to home for nutrients and hydroponics blocks, but given what most of their clientele look like - I don't think they specialise in growing tomatoes!   ;)

I am setting up an experimental aquaponics system (very small initially to get some experience), I haven't as yet decided how I will overwinter the system, as all my information is from Australia, heating my greenhouse might prove expensive depending on what I can grow, but that is what experimenting is about!

How do you heat your greenhouse now? I was thinking along the lines of solar heating.

What size is your greenhouse and aquaponics system?
