I was listening to gardeners Q time just now and it was very interesting. They were talking about coffee, ground, to add to vegetable beds which makes the soil darker, which in turn will make it warm easily. Bob flower dew recommends adding it to asparagus plants to get them to grow quicker, as it traps in the heat. For those of you who can't get hold of loads of coffee used granules I suggest going into your local costa's or starbucks and they have bags of the stuff they just give you, add these to the veg beds to add nitrogen and all sorts to the soil, my runner beans are thriving in it because of the coffee. Just thought I would share. They also did an interesting piece about herbicides and pesticides in gardening.
