Dodgy Wheel Horse Mini-tractor 312-8

Hello folks,

I'm looking for some advice - knowing NOTHING about tractors I bought a wheel horse 312-8 through eBay.  It came with the trailer, rotavator and mower attachments and was described as being in'perfect' condition.  £900 later I realise that it isn't anywhere close to perfect, and EBay don't offer any protection for the purchase of vehicles.  Needless to say the seller is not answering my calls.  The most obvious issue is that the steering has been welded to the axel on a number of occasions and the weld is now bust.  There's also a part missing that should hold the steering column securely...

I took it first to my neighbour, who mends land rovers for a living.  It sat in his workshop for about a month before saying he thought it was beyond him, although he recommended a ride on mower specialist 50 miles away.  The mower bloke has said that he would need to strip it all back (costing up to £500) and might be a job for a wheel horse enthusiast.  All I want is a working mini-tractor to use on our 5 acres of land.  Does anyone have any cheap ideas?  Does anyone know anyone in Scotland who's open minded,, creative and good at welding???

My suggestions would be:

Re list each item on ebay individually.

List the tractor with an honest description of working but needing some attention. (an enthusiast will buy it)

You will probably get most of your money back by selling them seperately.

Then start again..and get help from someone who knows about tractors.

Personally I would buy a proper full size tractor it but I admit to being biased and ultimately in depends on your needs...a wheel horse was never going to be up to doing much with 5 acres... a Kubota would be better but at that money you can buy a good Massey 135 or similar...that every agri engineer can fix, bits are readily available and cheap...hitch parts implements trailers the lot to suit them are easily available second hand and generally cheaper than mini tractor stuff.

Theres an old proverb goes something like this...

It is better to spend too much money than too little.  If you spend too much all you waste is a little money.  If you spend too little you risk getting something that wont do the job you want it to do and is no use at all.
