Out of interest do silkies make good broody hens,

They do make good broodies a lot of people tend to cross them with bigger breeds to get a good size hen to brood a larger clutch

one chick has hatched, but the other 6 that i thought were cheeping, turned out all to be the same one cheeping, i just was that hopefull  :'(  and they were infact hard boiled

The survivor is doing ok, this is its 3rd day out and is getting stronger every hour.

dizzy1pig - i think i shall be setting the incubator up again this weekend, if the offer is still there for the eggs would it be possible to collect maybe 3 or 4 as i would like to do a pot luck from my own birds as well.

Thanks for all the replies

Cameron  :)

re your question about silkies being good broodies - my silkie/araucana cross (or at least that's what I think she is!) made a great mum.  I have a fab picture of her with two of the chicks perching in the main hen house and she has a wing over each!  Glad you got one chick from your hatch.  Good luck for next time.
