I heard the first chiff chaff of the year this afternoon.Singing its heart out in an old apple tree. I've never heard one this early. So excited! :excited: :excited:

Ooh how exciting.  We don't get chiff-chaffs here.  There is something I've not heard before singing away in a conifer, but I can't see it to work out what it is.

Ummm - not like all the other birds, which I know we find around here.  I'll keep listening for it.  If only they did a reverse 'tweet of the day' on radio 4 I might be able to identify it from that.

I think Possum was asking what my mystery bird sounds like.  It's definitely not a chiff chaff, as I know that song, nor is a yellow hammer which sings 'a little bit of bread and no cheeeeese' incessantly.  We have a whole flock of those - lovely little birds.  I haven't heard my mystery guest for a few days, so maybe it was just passing through.
