feeding broad bran
« on: May 06, 2008, 08:59:44 pm »
A neighbour is trying to get me to take some broad bran (spelling?) that he has since his donkey died. (He hates waste ;)) Is there any reason to feed this to pigs? Or indeed any reason not to?

I only know that Simon Longe (an acknowledged expert here) says it can cause distortion of the gut in young pigs.  I dont think it has any feed value.  IMHO best avoided.

Some books recommend a little bran in a sow's feed for a couple of days after she's farrowed. This is to stop her becoming constipated. There's little or no actual feed value as far as I can tell.
