Which Tup on Ryeland Ewe Lambs?
« on: November 08, 2014, 05:16:39 pm »
Hi All,

We have just been offered 3 February born Ryeland ewe lambs and was planning putting them in with our friends tups for May lambs, the lambs would be for our freezer. They have Welsh mountain, Charolais and Texel, I'm assuming the Texel wouldn't be a good idea on ewe lambs but which of the others would you use?

Thanks in advance!

I agree on not using the Texel - neck's too short and shoulders too wide.  Charollais also had a lot of Merino in the original mix but the lambs are much leggier and thin-skinned so I'd be inclided to go for the Welsh Mountain as the best bet for easy lambing.  Should give a good carcase.
