New feature: Like posts
« on: September 25, 2014, 10:27:59 am »
We're trialling a new feature on the forum that allows you to 'Like' posts.

It lets you register your approval of a post without having to post a reply (although you still can).

Alongside each post you should see a wee thumbs-up icon and the word 'Like'. Click this to register a like. You can also unlike posts you've previously liked (just in case you liked one of Alistair's posts by accident).

At the moment I've configured it to only show the number of likes - the facility is there to show who liked the post, but it is switched off for now.

This is a trial for now, we need to see if it's used and, ahem, liked, and how it impacts on forum performance.

Any feedback welcome.  :)

Well, I was going to like your post to show my approval - but I can't find the button!  :innocent:

If you see 'Like' but no thumb Possum, please refresh your browser. If you don't even see Like, please let me know!

I don't see "Like" or a thumb.  Refreshed, no change.  Using Chrome on a Mac.

Thanks, that was the clue I needed, we have a separate permission profile on this board and I hadn't allowed likes here. Done now, so you should see it here too.

I'd like if if we could see who's liked a post please.  Anonymous likes are okay but showing who's actually liked it would be much better.  Pretty please? :)

foobar, this came up previously and not everyone who liked a post wanted to be known. So I am guessing that it will stay anonymous

Apologies for reopening an old post, but I really do think that everyone would benefit from knowing who has liked their posts.  It might also go along way to prevent some of the misunderstanding/nastiness that is sometimes experienced on here.
Openness and honesty is always the best policy - anonymous likes goes against this IMHO.

I'm not much bothered whether "likers" are anonymous or identifiable, but an identifiable 'like' can often be used, I reckon, as an acceptable short-cut to saying "thank you" for good advice received. (However, I note that some forums offer a 'thank you' button as well as, or instead of.)
