chronogest alternative
« on: September 25, 2014, 01:49:39 pm »
We were all set to sponge our ewes on Saturday, with the tup booked in for 2 weeks time, in order to lamb when I have booked time off work.  It sadly turns out that Chronogest is unavailable for another month or more.  Is there another way to try and synchronise the ewes? Also if we just put the tup with them for 3 weeks is there a chance of getting any lambs at all?  We only have 5 ewes. Many thanks.

You could use a teaser ram

Probably still quiet early for a teaser tup... it is still quite warm.

I have had the same problem with trying to synchronise two of my goats... my vets is trying to source some from France, but so far no luck. It is a UK wide problem. Fortunately I am not doing any AI this year... :relief:

You need to keep your ewes out of sight and smell of mature tups for 6 weeks, then the introduction of a male causes them to cycle at once, most leave the teaser in for two weeks then put the real rams in

Hello. I've plenty of sponges in stock. Could post 5 to you if you get a script from your vet. pm me or 07889044169 or fax 01764 652309
