Lleyn lambs

Hi all,

We just had our first lleyn lambs go to slaughter, we are due to pick them up tomorrow and take them to be butchered as we are selling them to family and eating them ourselves, however the farmer who took them for us said they could have done with another month or so and expects that the dead weights will only be around 15kg! We were hoping for closer to the 20kg mark. Our grass has not done so well this year and dint want to feed them loads of concentrates so we doubted that another month would have made much difference and thought now would be the best time for them to go.

So my question is will a carcass weighing 15kg give me really small joints? Worried that the chops etc may be a bit on the small side, would be comforting to hear people say this is not going to be the case when I get my lamb back?

Many thanks

I had a rig I sent off at 3 months old as he was trying to cover everything! He came back at 16kg, the joints weren't too small actually, I thought they would be a lot smaller! They were lean so I saw that as a positive thing (my heart says its a bad thing as I love the fat but my head said that was a good thing) They will be lovely don't you worry about that!

I agree. We sent off 5 lleyn lambs at end Oct and they came back between 12- 16 kg. meat is lovely and everyone who bought some has commented how nice it was. Re- orders for next year already.
Small but perfectly formed- don't worry  :eyelashes:
