Mine were grown in goat manure with a little bit of soil added.

They are scabby, rotten, cut them open and have brown rings and the ones you do cook go to mush -  think we left them in too long and they got the blight.  Our later harvest is better (mainly Kerrs Pink variety).  We won't leave them in so long next year which may improve things.
