Blackcurrant and Rum Jam
« on: October 23, 2009, 09:46:51 am »
Hello,

I have tons of blackcurrants in the freezer and thought it might be nice to make some of them into a slightly different jam for Christmas pressies.  So was thinking rum.  Have had a quick look on Google but not found much help.  Anyone got any old family recipes they care to share?  Would I soak them in rum or just add a couple of tablespoons? How about sloe gin instead? Any tips gratefully received.

Helen.  ;D

I make "Plum N' Rum jam to sell at the village hall coffee morning. It is very popular and sells for £1.00 per jar. I make the jam as normal and add a tot of rum before it reaches setting point. I have never tried it with blackcurrants though.

Mmmm sloe gin would be nice too - lovely and sweet to counteract the blackcurrants :yum:
I'd make some with both - just to see what's nicest :yum: :yum: :yum: and any excuse for a wee tipple eh?  ;) ;D
