Wanted: Compost
« on: April 20, 2013, 03:18:00 pm »
I'm after some cheap (or free) compost, old split bags or home-rotted, just need to pot up a few bits.

Happy to bag or re-bag myself.

The nearer to Great Dunmow, Essex (near Stansted Airport) the better, but willing to travel.

I will also be looking for top soil within the next couple of months.

Does your local Council tip not have any?

They do... but the price is not far off Homebase prices!

Ours doesn't charge anything - it's free for the taking!  But you have to show your residents card.

If you were closer we could help out with some rotted chicken compost, came from the sheds when we moved here. We are about 120 miles from you.

We haven't really discussed selling it or doing anything else with it at the moment.

We all got a card to show at the gate of the Council recycling centre, and each Council only allows residents to dump their rubble, rubbish etc, and to take compost.  Just so you don't get folk coming a distance to take it - i think all the Scottish Councils do it.  It costs nothing to dump stuff but you have to sort it into the different sections, but if it's a business you have to pay.

Not all Scottish councils do it... Mind you ours also doesn't do compost!
