anyone grew them on containers of sand? what sand and would you use it over and over again or replace it every year?

I always thought that if you grew carrots in sand, you put drainpipe sized holes in the damp sand and filled it up with soil to get maximum size.  Surely sand by itself wouldn't have the neccessary nutrients?  I may be talking balderdash of course...

Yes I grow my carrot in half plastic barrels in a mixture of half sand half compost with plenty of bone meal, Freshen up with more compost and bone meal second year then start again third year. Have always had fair results. Sand is ordinary soft not sharp, compost is well rotted horse chicken manure
