Picked up my first Shetland ram :)
« on: January 13, 2013, 05:56:19 pm »
He is such a sweetie, and he had to be called Rambo :p

So here he is, he is a shearling with a lovely set of horns and the sweetest face you ever did see, he is pedigree but not registered, white with soft grey around his eyes and nicely halter trained

At the moment he is at my house with number 3 and kanjee (wethers) until the calves have left the farm and he can join the others at the farm.

He looks a lovely chap  :) :sheep:    If he is from a pedigree flock, why is he not registered?   You may not need a registered tup just now, but you might prefer to go down the registered route soon and then it could be too late to register him.  The breeder should do it.

I wonder how many rams called Rambo there are  :innocent:

I named him Rambo because umm... he is a Ram  :excited: and deserved a BIG name

I am not sure why he isnt registered, I was told he is pedigree but just doesnt have the papers, The person I bought him off wasnt the breeder. However my 2 shetland ewes  are not registered and so I wouldnt be able to register offspring anyway.

But yes I will breed from him for a few years then if I replace my ewes someday I will get registered ewes and a registered ram :) at the moment it isnt so important.

He does have some lovely horns on him! although he is a little thin so will try and feed him up a bit :)

Have to confess that our (unregistered) Shetland is called Rambo too  :-[ .  He is an absolute gent and we are looking forward to his first lambs in April.  Like Ladygrey, my ewes are also unregistered but maybe someday we will 'upgrade' our flock.
