I have noticed over the past week my hybrid isa browns have been laying skinny longer eggs?? The quantity of eggs and their food has not changed - does anyone have any idea, maybe its the persistent rain and the onset of winter?
The only thing different is that i have installed LED lights on a timer?? They are fully free range.

Sorry, no help. I get the occasional egg like this but I couldn't tell you why and I've never had them all start to do it.

As Jaykay really. We get the occasional egg that is super big, super small, a bit rounder than normal, etc.


We have found that a certain batch of hens have tended to lay certain shaped eggs. For example, we had some hy-lines who would all lay really big, very round eggs and some black rock who would lay more elongated eggs.


Are your birds fairly young and so their eggs are changing from the smaller type egg that a POL pullet normally produces to the egg of a more mature laying bird?

They are 7 months old now and were normal size for the breed i suppose, they just seem to be getting thinner but overall the same length? Not all of them are having the same issue i think, beceause everyday i am getting 15 eggs out of 17 hens and about a half or less are the skinny ones?
I have realised that i have been giving them a handfull of wheat with there corn and layers pellet, as well as being free range all day - so they are well fed, but like to range for the goodies?
