A question about hay.
« on: October 03, 2012, 03:11:55 pm »
Hi all. Last year, when we got the boys, we bought one of those huge round bales of hay from the farmer up the road. Now that the boys are out and about for most of the day, they only eat hay at night, or during the day if its raining and they go into the barn to stay dry. Therefore, I have loads of hay left. I need to know if there is a time limit on hay before its no good. This lot seems to be fine, its been kept very dry so its not mouldy and the boys do seem to love it but obviously I dont want to give them something that may do them the minutest bit of harm.

If it's dry it should be fine. It loses nutritional value as it gets older, but since your boys are neither milking nor having kids, that shouldn't be an issue.  :)
