New to all this!

Hello everyone! I've been lurking on here for ages waiting for the purchase of our land to come through and you seem like a lovely friendly bunch. We've just bought approx 4 acres of grazing land with stables, haybarn and animal shelter. We are sharing the land with friends who have 3 ponies.

We are just about to purchase some sheep from a local breeder. We'd intended initially just to have 3 wether Grey-Face Dartmoors as lawnmowers/hobby sheep and to rotate the land (we're vegetarian so sheep will have a home for life with us). Once we went to see the sheep, we became attracted by some different options and are buying an older Dartmoor ewe with her own wether plus one other Dartmoor wether. We're also buying a Shetland ewe and another wether - Hebridean/Longwool cross (I know, an odd choice).

We're new to sheep but our land neighbour is very experienced, we've read books and are going on a sheep husbandry course very soon (after all, everyone's got to start somewhere).

Very excited and looking forward to sharing experiences (and seeking advice) on TAS.  :fc:
Where are we going - and why am I in this handcart?

  Hi and welcome from a more than wet Powys.

We've only kept sheep for a couple of years and have found the sheepie forum a really useful and friendly place to be.

Good luck

Hello from Worcestershire

our first year of keeping our own sheep. Ours are lawnmowers too, my husband being vegetarian. We've had other peoples grazing here for 3 years on and off but bit the bullet this January - not looked back, loads of friendly advice to be had on here  :)

Welcome Blackbird  and congratulations on buying your land.  How exciting, choosing your sheep and getting everything set up  :)

Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing
