I dont really know what category this falls under...so I have put it in here

I have been told to figure out costs of temporary electric fencing for cattle and sheep for two 10 acre paddocks, I cant find anywhere that says how many metres are around ten acres, or around 1acre will do, they are just saying the area of an acre instead. (to the best of my knowledge this is different to around

but I really have no idea )

There are 4047 square mtrs to the acre so from that you should be able to figure out the perimeter,
I never was good at this sort of math's and my numbers brainpower has been used up deciding how to pay for a car, given the multitude of ways open to us now.

It depends on the shape of the ten acres; there is no fixed perimeter.

i think it is a 64m x 64m square boundary will be a tiny bit over 1 acre.

64m x 64m = 4096 sq m and if you do an internet conversion 4096 sq metres to acres it comes out as 1.0121 acres.

10 acres = 40468.56 square metres

this would be 201.2 metres per side - therefore your fence is 804,8 metre total length assuming your field is square.

bad news, you need to get a out and measure the boundaries as a square area would have a very different perimeter to a jagged edged shape...

yep eg Norway and the UK have one of the longest lengths of coastlines in the world even tho they arent enormous esp uk....:-)
What might help is to look up your land using the DEFRA interactive map, it takes a bit of getting used to but can produce some useful approx info.

When you have entered your postcode etc (I use landscape feature filter but doesnt matter too much) then you want the measure distance icon - its sort of in the middle in the top of the map. Might be of some help or maybe not!

Pace it out. You can check your pace length by walking say ten paces at your normal stride, and divide by 10. Then walk round the perimeter, counting as you go. Allow a small margin for error.

I never really did maths and am no good at it at all...

so if one acre is 64x64, does that mean it is 64 x 4 metres around? so 256 metres around is one acre (please correct me if I am wrong

)

so times that by ten = 2,560 metres around ten acres

I hope...

The fields are two 20 acre fields, both rectangular, we are chopping them both into ten acre squares and then putting up temporary fencing around two of the ten acre squares until the fencing can be done. ( well this is the plan anyway )

So the 10 acres are pretty much square, I dont think I can go to pace them out, although I will ask

If you imagine 9 squares stuck together to make a big square (ok its 10 acres but 10 squares don't stick together to make a square).

Say each side of the smaller squares is 65m long.

The four corner squares will have two sides of fencing. The middle square along each side will only have 1 side of fencing. The central square won't have any fencing.

So you will need: 65 x4 x2= 520m
Plus 65 x 4 x1 = 260m

So 780m in total. Add a bit to make up for the extra 'square' we've missed out and call it 800m fencing needed.

I'll try and draw it when I have a minute, but gotta go now.

Thats different somehow to what I came up with :s I measured the field on one of those tools and it says the field is 1,200 metres around.

Which is also different to what I came up with

I have just realised that the boundary is being fenced in but the insides arent, I will draw it and send it in

because that means I need less fencing then I thought.

yup your sums ladygrey assume your fencing each acre seperately not in bulk

jaykays description is better

each 10 acre area is under 1000m easily, dont forget if your doing 2 squares next to each other they will share 1 fence which will cut the amount total down even more.

either way its a lot of fencing...
