POL Hens and Ducks
« on: July 05, 2012, 08:05:23 pm »
Hi All

I'm in South Lanarkshire - can anyone recommend a good place to buy Point of Lay Hens & Ducks?

I've sourced a few places but they are looking for £25 each!

Cheers

Hiya, Try Harmony Poultry in Dumfriesshire - possibly not too far away from you?

However, is £25 really that wide of the mark?  I've always thought £15 for hybrids and £20 for pure breeds, but feed prices have also been going up recently..........

Mike Black at Newton of Collessie in Fife has POLs regularly, I was speaking to him Wednesday and he's got several breeds in just now and some Friesian (?) coming in a couple weeks - I made jokes about them being black and white and producing milk instead of eggs but apparently they're orange and white barred and I'm quite tempted by them plus Speckledys and cream Legbar he mentioned.  I don't think his are necessarily pure show quality breeding stock but I had 4 pullets off him a year ago and would definitely have more if/when I can get another coop/shed to the top of my financial outlay list ::)

Gibbs of Galston usually have a varied amount of hybrids.
If you phone Cripps mill at Waterfoot near Eaglesham, i was in there this morning and someone has put an ad in for Marans & Warrens at POL  i am sure they were £15 each or trios.
