Mr Fox
« on: June 18, 2012, 12:04:25 pm »
SO ANGRY!!
Mr Fox made away with 9!!!! of our hens last night, cant beleive a fox could eat that many in one go. At least for the kids sake there are just feathers everywhere, no leftovers.
Any chance of some others hiding and maybe come back later??

Ah no! That's so sad. Do you keep your hens anywhere near the pigs? If so that's the end of my theory of the smell of the pigs keeping foxes away from mine.

Boris the boar and Poppy are immediately next door to them just now so unfortunately that theory isnt going to work, my girls hoped that some of them had run into the pigs house for safety!

I used to think that pigs kept foxes away too. Sadly it isn't the case.

Sorry for your loss. Never lost that many in one go, but give a warning that now he knows where he can get his chicken dinner he will be back . suggest you keep hens in or a few days/ week. remainder will probably be traumatised as well.

we also had 9 hens go missing and followed the trail of feathers to find fox and cubs..  so probably fox and cubs took them...

You do know that pigs will kill poultry sometimes.

Sorry to hear about the fox raid.

definately not the pigs, not a feather in their area! Although we did find a dead pheasant once in their pen,
but couldnt have been that tasty!
