Owl attacking Hens up tree - the evidence
« on: May 21, 2012, 10:48:43 am »
I had posted this last week, about my suspicions of an Owl attacking my hens - i might have found out why??
I moved my hen house on Saturday and by Sunday i had found that my house was 30m from a Tawny Owls nest. This little chap was sat on a branch for hours and not moving - i left it for 5 hours to see if it would climb back up into its nest in a hole in a chestnut tree. It didn't and had fell off the branch onto the ground unhurt. It is now in a bird sanctuary  recovering. It has a fine set of talons and equally impressive wings for a wee chap.

Even if its mother took my hen (or maybe more in the future) - you couldn't do anything but help and admire this wee chap.

So my sugestion was right. ;) ::) ,   she would be protecting her nest & young as the chickens had invaded her territory.
