Chick advice please
« on: July 30, 2011, 03:36:15 pm »
My clever Orpington has hatched a chick this morning  ;D  (our first), she is still sitting on another egg and they are in a rabbit hutch at the moment. I know the chick is ok for today and I've got some chick crumb ready but will Mum eat this too or should I give her something else? Also when can they come out of the hutch into a run for a while?
Thanks, any advice gratefully received because I haven't done this before  :-\

Mum can eat the chick crumb, all the while the babies are with her, soon as you take mum out she can go back on layers, as soon as your sure that the other eggs are not going to hatch, you can put her out in a run, mum will keep babies warm, make sure the run has a top on it otherwise birds will come and take the babies
