mixing lambs of different ages?

I have read somewhere i think it was the Farmers Guardian that you shouldnt mix lambs of different ages, cant remember why and it may have related to housed lambs.
I 'm wondering whether it is ok for  newly born lambs  and christmas born lambs to run together in the same field.Any views would be welcome. Its a field thats not had sheep in it for 10 years and I think it would be good grazing for both lots
