The weather should begin to turn chillier during the weekend, and this looks like continuing during the first half of next week, bringing an increasing risk of overnight frost again. In the north east there may even be some sleet or snow, especially over higher ground, and there's still a low possibility that the risk will spread to higher ground in other parts of the country.
With high pressure building to the north of Britain during the days ahead, there will be a possibility of much colder air filtering back into eastern areas as we head towards the middle of the month. At the moment we think the chances of that happening are quite low, but we will be watching developments very closely during the days ahead, and are not ruling out the risk of some snow next week...............................................There's showery rain around as we start the day today, through parts of England and Wales, and with the latest in a line of fronts already making it's way in across Ireland from the west there's more to come.
The showers which have developed in the early hours in southern counties will tend to fizzle away during the morning, as the front makes itself known during the afternoon though, more showers will tend to pep up before eventually merging into more persistent spells of rain - particularly in the north and west.
The main bulk of the rain should cross the country overnight though, leaving many western and central parts with a drier, brighter start to Saturday - watch for some icy stretches on the roads here though.
Further east the rain may take a little while to clear from eastern coastal counties - in fact some showers may well develop after the front has moved through as well. Temperatures will be mildest in the south and east where double figures are just about likely to be reached, but cooler further north with highs of 5-8°c.
Overnight and into Sunday the conveyor belt of weather fronts continues with more wet and windy weather sweeping in with showers following in behind it, and some of these will be falling as snow as colder air moves into Scotland and Ireland.
Next week keeps the unsettled theme going to start with, but there is a lot of uncertainty over the second half of the week with a chance that cold easterly winds may cut in, bringing with them the risk of some snow..
