Ear tags
« on: November 04, 2024, 06:38:37 pm »
We bought 4 saddleback weaners in spring and taking them to abattoir in 2 weeks. They had bilateral ear tags when we brought them here and I only noticed yesterday that of the 8 original tags, only one remains. Ears are nicked but fully healed and healthy where they were pulled/rubbed/bitten?? off. Do I need to re-tag them? I have no equipment. Should I buy a slap marker? Or will abattoir accept them on basis of paperwork which is all in order?

They will need tags or a slap mark. Paperwork alone is not enough.
Appreciate you bought pigs already tagged but if not we find it best to tag them just prior to slaughter.
