Hi, pretty new to all this but and probably been a bit naïve here.

 I was offered two GOS sows as pets, I went to see them and everything seemed fine. owners had said if things didn't work out they would take them back as they didn't want anything to happen to them (looking back this was probably a red flag) . After a few days it became clear they were not pets, not used to people and quite aggressive, messaged the previous owners and they "couldnt take them back" leaving us with them.

We are now trying to rehome them or have the butchered but without tags, tattoos or any form of paperwork/ID we are really struggling as to what our next steps should be.

Any help or advice would be great.

you can move pig under 12months between farms with out a tag , then if there going to slaughter or market  you put your tag in them ,problem starts if you didnt do a movement liecence

You need to contact animal health and explain the situation because you are now the keeper of two pigs. They will sort everything out for you. Do this asap because as you say you can not move them anywhere. You are also illegal owners and whilst you are new to all this it is your responsibility to sort it now.


You need to register on the eaml2 system so you can set up a licence when you move them on.


Have you got a cph? Animal Health will sort you out with a herd mark so you can order tags.


As valmet says if the pigs are under a year of age then can move without tags. You called them sows, which are females that have had a litter. Is this what they are? The fact they are untagged is not the major issue here but the unlicenced move which is serious breach of animal movement legislation.


Pigs are not normally aggressive and they will probably settle down given time.

As the others have already said, you should speak to Animal Health and get a herd number and a holding number if you don't already have one. Once that is done you can tag them with your tags and legally move them - problem solved
