Bottles for sloe gin

Was going to post this in the brewing section but see it doesn’t have much action and thought it might get missed!

If you’ve done sloe gin, is it okay to use a plastic bottle (like a 2 litre fizzy pop bottle) for the initial steeping? I have a big glass one but it’s just that bit too small. Or would it be better to get another glass one? I have lots of small glass jars but only want to split the amount in half at best.

Hi,

Definitely it is better to use glass bottles. It is no problem to use small glasses. However, if you want to split the amount just in half you should buy fitting bottles.  You should shake the bottle every day of the first week. Also store it at a cold, dark place. For this the glass bottles are just better to use.

Cheers!
