Hi all,

Just looking for some advice. I have a 3 year old wether who has been lame for a few weeks however neither me or an experienced farmer can work out why. There is no swelling on the leg and the foot is fine. When walking however he is reluctant to put it down and weight bare. Then last week a lump developed under his jaw which I now know is called bottle jaw and is likely to be fluke. He has been treated for the fluke and also had a couple of anti biotic injections. I thought he seemed to pick up after this and seemed to be grazing more and looked happier however he's starting to look depressed again and the bottle jaw hasn't gone down.
Does anyone have advice on what the next steps should be? I'm thinking a visit from the vet will be necessary but I've also read online about giving a B complex to help with the anaemia caused by the fluke? He is a pet so I will consider any treatment.

As above, CLA, wooden tongue, tooth problems all could be the issue, needs a vet to assess

"a lump" isn't bottle jaw.  vet.
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

Or a thorn, thistle spike gone septic... had one of my goats displaying a good sized lump on the side of her jaw just a few weeks ago. We just squeezed the gunk out, sprayed with terramycin and all healed up within a couple of weeks. Would have ben a bit trickier if it had been inside her mouth... but it doesn't explain the lameness.
