Chick with splayed leg - incubator settings?
« on: May 24, 2020, 09:02:23 am »
We have just hatched some hen eggs in a Brinsea incubator.  All ok except for a late hatching with a splayed leg.  Improvising a hobble, see

seems to be helping and chick is building up some mobility.

Can't put it with the others yet as feel it would be bullied and thinking of keeping it in the incubator, as a brooder, for a few days.

Do you think this is feasible and if so should we keep the hatching settings (temp 37 humidity 65%) or change them?

Many thanks for any thoughts.

Um, following up my own post as first comment - sorry....

Guess it is not a good idea to keep it in incubator - ventilation among other issues.

This morning's job: set up a hospital brooder box for one.

Splayed leg can be a vitamin B deficiency in the hen. Don't kept apart for long as they form a flock by 7 days.
