Looking for some advice on transporting your own point of lay hens. Getting 350 hens and we live on an island so having to collect the point of lay hens on mainland. We have 30 large industry crates so will have 12 hens per crate.
We are hiring a long wheel base van to transport them in, the journey time will be 5 hours.
We will be stopping every 30 minutes and open sliding door and back door to ensure enough air for them, then do another 30 minutes then same again until we get home.
We will be driving slowly to ensure the least amount of vibrations on road. We are collecting them start of march so ideal for lower temperatures outside as it's not height of summer.
Looking for advice on ideal temperature/ temperature control measures to ensure the birds are happy as they can be during transit, I have a battery powered fan which could go at the back of van to improve air circulation.and any other advice suggested for the transit of our POL birds.
I look forward to your feedback.
Many thanks
