Weeds and grass

Hi

I知 preparing a new part of the holding to grow veg. It痴 about half and acre. I ploughed and rotavatoted it a month or so ago and picked out a load of stones and bricks. The pigs had been on it before and cleared kostbthe old vegation of grass and weeds.

I致e come back from a two week holiday to find grass starting to grow back through along with various broad leaved weeeds.

I did t really want to spray with weeed killer but I知 not sure how else to tackle it?

If I spray it over with total weed killer how long before I can plant in it?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks
Denis

I would go over it again with the rotavator and pick off any persistent roots like couch from the surface. They are easier to see once they start to sprout, but at that stage have not taken root.  I've never used weed killer.  I find that many weeds just don't matter; the worst are couch grass, bindweed, creeping thistle, but horsetail is so fine it really isn't a problem, and bitter cress is tasty.

Rotivating it now will be quie straight forward but you値l have the same problem once it痴 planted with veg. If you are going to struggle to get round with a hoe, maybe half an acre us to much?

I have got an inter row weeder for the tractor for where I値l plant in rows. And then the other areas for peas and beans etc I値l do by hand.

I wouldn't if there is couch grass in it. You will probably just chop the rhizomes up causing yourself further issues.

Just my opinion.
