Friendly advice needed.

We have 5 bottle lambs. 4 of them are thriving. But 1 ram lamb is lethargic, weaker and seems to be struggling to take his milk. He is keen to feed and is hungry, but takes about 10 sips from the bottle and has to rest. He will take more milk but very slowly. They are all feed Lamlac, Wynnstay own brand milk. He has a bit of a runny bottom which is very smelly and gurgle noises in his belly after feeding. Do I need to change his milk? I have already tried changing bottles and teats but no change. All advice welcome. Thanks

I would switch him onto PSF or Rehydion for 48 hours.  Either should keep him alive while the scour dries up.  Assuming his poo returns to normal then you can start him back on milk on the third day.

I like Rehydion because you can feed it with milk, so you can bring the milk back in more gently.  But PFS is probably cheaper and should clear the scour up. 

You could add a swirl of probiotic yoghurt to his bottle once he’s back on milk.

If the scour doesn’t clear over the 48 hours, take him to see a vet.

What Sally said    although I have used Life Aid sachets this year with great success... more so than rehydion.


You say that his belly gurgles- is his mouth dry? It’s not watery mouth is it? How old is he?
