Been advised to open a new thread  on this. May be of interest to anyone thinking of getting pigs for slaughter. I will be getting a couple if weaners  next month to be put into a pen of approx 20m x 10m. This pen will be about 20m  from the back of my house. Everything set up and ready to go  when someone told me that there will be a bad smell around my house as the pen is so close. My plan is to bring the pigs to slaughter in the summertime but this claim about potential smell has got to me. Anyone any experience of keeping a couple of pigs so close to their back yard and can reassure me that the smell won’t be too bad????? Or indeed confirm what I have been told. How bad and how far would their smell reach????? Thanks in advance.

Thats just a myth. Keep them clean and u wont smell a thing. They are actually one of the cleanest animals, just need cleaning out properly.

Keep on top of the mucking out as ABC123 says . Make sure they have clean bedding and a dunging area that is kept clean, after all its only a couple .
You will smell them just as any other animal has its own odour but it wont be bad

You may find, if the pen is big enough that they will do their business all over and walk it in.
I have micro pigs that will do bit of both in pens of 7x14m here, but the 'maxi' pigs are all in pens over 25m on a side and do not have a 'latrine'

Our pigs are about that distance and there is no smell as such, although our paddock is much bigger. We section off their sleeping accommodation so they only just fit in - that way they don't soil their bed area and only toilet outside. I like having them close to the house as it enables us to have plenty contact with them!
