Whilst putting my birds in for the night tonight I noticed that my RIR cockerel (who already has a dodgy leg) has what looks like sore patches from the ball of both his feet to the bottom of his legs, he is eating well and seems healthy enough but I have no idea what the problem could be?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

dont no anything about it but could it be bumblefoot
just an idea but hope it helps

if it bumblefoot the infection needs treating now. if left the infection becomes cronic and the bird needs to be culled.

if it's both legs sounds like an infection

Thank you all for the suggestions, I've read up on bumblefoot and checked the cockerel's feet, no marks on the balls of his feet and both are very soft.

I'm still stumped?

He is still feeding and drinking well, and is regularly "treading" the hens.

the summary from "diseases in free-range poultry"

raised, encrusted scales on legs - Scaly leg - Mite, borrowing under scales

could that be it?

suggested treatment in the book: dunk legs in surgical spirit once a week for 3 weeks. do not pull off crusts. takes a year to look normal . or use Ivomec 5 drops on bird skin

I find Sudacrem is also good for this

I apply twice a week.
