Ducks on grass
« on: December 08, 2018, 02:22:21 pm »
Just sold my geese, thinking what's next maybe a few  geese next year for my own consumption, would like a regular supply of duck meat, can ducks be reared on grass with a start and finish with pellets if so which are best grazers?

I don't find that my ducks eat much grass.  They dibble about underneath that and the moss for beasties.  Mine are as pets and for eggs so I feed them layers pellets, with occasional mixed grain as treats.

my ducks like greens, lettuce, and cabbage etc. but i wouldn't say they were grazers. They would need a daily ration of pellets/mixed grain i would think

My ducks don’t eat much grass either. They need a proper diet of grain to finish properly.

What about Muscovies?  Just a thought.

Muscovies eat a little bit more grass than "normal" ducks not bit near as much as geese. Mind you in the winter I feed them very little - they mostly free range and eat slugs and whatever then can find in the brook.
Growing loads of fruits and vegetables! Raising dairy goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits on 1/2 acre in the middle of the city of Leicester, using permaculture methods.
