Sheep Skins in Scotland
« on: October 17, 2018, 08:50:06 pm »
Hi guys,

I'm after some advice - from those based in Scotland (as I'm sure the rules are different in England and Wales).

I have a couple of lambs that are ready to go off the abattoir and I wanted to get their skins processed - times a ticking I know...
When I spoke to the abattoir they will only give me the skins back if I have a licence for them.
 - So my first question... who do I get the licence from? is it the local council or AHLVA?  I've tried calling both but got no answer, I've emailed both but I'm still waiting for an answer.

 - My second question... for those that have had their sheep skins processed, who did you use?

Many Thanks

Cuddles - whereabouts are you?  We're in the same situation (nr Stirling).

I was thinking about doing a home kill so we could keep one particular skin, although I haven't looked up whether I need a license for that too. Just as you say, the clock is ticking, so I don't know whether it will happen or not.

If you do manage to find a way forward, could we club together somehow perhaps?

Thanks Rosemary,

Womble,
I've been in contact with APHA and they gave me the email address scotlandabp@apha.gsi.gov.uk so I've emailed them to see if they can send on the relevant forms etc.

I don't think I'm too far from you, I'll ping you a dm later today.

Cheers all,
Cuddles

Perfect!  I'd like at least one done, and possibly as many as three if the price isn't too extortionate. Perhaps by clubbing together, we can get a better deal?
