I suspect that there are people here with a fairly wide range of native cattle breeds who have sent beasts to slaughter and wondered what carcase grade confirmation  people get with different breeds.

I've got Shetland and my last 5 have been;
-O (an older cow)
O+
O+
O+
P+ (this was at a different abattoir from the others and was also graded the fattest (4L))

I guess this is a reflection on the Shetlands origins being primarily a dairy breed.

Anyone else care to add their vital stats? (purely for interest to see how much consistency there is within breeds and difference between breeds).

Hi,

Our records show 4 Shetland steers and 1 Shetland bull.

1 steer was processed at Elgin, he was O+4H - quite fat despite his grass only diet. Slaughtered very close to 30 months

The rest were all taken to Millers of Speyside. Again all very close to 30 months.

Steers were O+4H, O+4H,  O+4L and O+4L. The bull was O+3 . I think Gordon used to keep records on his beasts too - he may have more data.

Sue.
